To-morrow dies;
All that we wish to stay
Tempts and then flies.”

The Assembly Gallery presents All That We Wish To Stay, an exhibition of new collages and archived works by Adam Matak. Like the Shelley poem suggests, the exhibition takes many approaches to the transient nature of life and enduring loss in the present. This loss is not only of loved ones, but of past selves or even lost moments. Some of these “lost moments” are included in the exhibition by means of excerpts from Matak’s nearly 100 sketchbooks, which document the changes in the artists’ life from 1999-2024. This marks Matak’s third solo exhibition with the gallery.

Adam Matak holds a BFA from the University of Windsor, a Bed from the University of Toronto (OISE) and an MFA from Tufts University/School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. His practice explores the surprising beauty of our daily routines and traditions. Solo exhibitions include Le Gallery (Toronto), ARTCITE Inc. (Windsor), Agnes Jamieson Gallery (Minden Hills), and the Thames Art Gallery (Chatham). Matak’s work has been featured in the textbook Art Works as well as The Globe and Mail, National Post, The Boston Globe, and The Hamilton Spectator.
