"Progressions: A Dialogue in Clay" reflects the intimate and evolving journeys of five participants in my mentorship program at +CREATE. This project brings together the work of Nathan Eugene Carson, Veneda Jane, Maureen Locke (posthumously), Ryan Nesbitt, and Laura Wagner, alongside my own contributions, Christopher Reid Flock.

Clay, as one of the earliest mediums of human expression, holds histories - both personal and collective - much like film. Both have the ability to record, preserve, and narrate human experience - not just as tools for expression, assisting in shaping form and meaning, but also as mediums of expression, actively shaping the maker in return. Clay, like film, engages in a reciprocal process: its transformations- whether fluid, raw, vulnerable, or hardened - become part of an ongoing dialogue. It can remain unfired, existing in a state of impermanence, or be subjected to heat, each stage offering a different resolution. In Progressions, each participant engages in this evolving conversation with clay -one that captures a moment in time while hinting at a larger, ongoing dialogue. This exhibition offers a snapshot of those connections and the discoveries made through their exploration of the material.
