Jason Lee Rhyno Born in 1977, Jason Lee Rhyno is a Hamilton based artist who works primarily with the drawing medium. Born in Toronto, Rhyno moved to Hamilton and pursued studies at the Dundas Valley School Of Art, and is currently pursuing his Bachelor of Fine Arts from McMaster University. Jason Lee Rhyno is a Canadian artist whose work examines the relationship between subject/artist/viewer, the construct and portrayal of sexual identities and the close bond of familial relationships. Through close study and intimate detail Rhyno creates sensitive and engrossing portraits that challenge the viewer to find balance within a dense, heavily worked surface. Employing traditional media, working primarily with colored pencil, the intimate, hand drawn portraits suggest a preoccupation with line and a juxtaposition of negative space with masses of colour. The portraits evoke a shifting of emotional experiences, from love, loss, longing, sadness, and loneliness, to the desire to confront or engage the viewer through their often direct outward gaze.
